What can this country do for you?
What do you want out of government?
From the Declaration of Independence and the Preamble to the Constitution, to the hopes, dreams, and desires of everyone in this country today, it seems that our wish list is pretty damn homogenous and pretty damn simple.
I’ll start-
I want my kids to be safe, healthy and free.
I want to be able to make a living and support my family without having to choose between food and healthcare.
I want to know that the ingredients in the food and medicine I buy have undergone rigorous safety tests.
I want my government to leave me alone, for the most part, but to be there when an emergency arises.
I don’t want to be spied on, used as an experimental test subject, or be harvested as a cash crop for someone else’s profits.
I want my taxes to go towards the benefit of myself, my community, and the rest of the citizens who are also paying taxes into the system.
I want the system that operates within the Rule of Law, wherein everyone is treated equally.
I want peace and prosperity.
I want my country’s military to only be used as a last resort, when all forms of diplomacy have been exhausted.
I do not want my country’s intelligence services to overthrow other countries, rig elections, or commit crimes for the arbitrary greater good.
I want my representatives, the people in power, to not be murderers. pedophiles, or cannibals.
I don’t believe that any of these items are terribly unreasonable.
