What I Have Learned in the Last 21ishYears

Was honestly more than I ever wanted, but also everything I needed to learn.

In July 2004 I was at a weird inflection point in my life. I had quit my job managing what might be the most profitable pizza place in the country. I am not kidding when I say we broke $5,000 in food sales everyday before 10am.

I was looking to find a way to make a living while also being able to raise my 1 year old twin sons and be there for the most important years of their lives. I had started to learn web development and was just starting to learn how to game SEO (Google Search Engine Optimization.) In retrospect, most importantly, I had also finally had enough of seeing our political class lie about world events and drag us ever further into Fascism and Eternal War’s warm embrace.

I had been collecting video footage aired on 9-11-2001 for a while at that point and had made an alt media video with my opinions about that day.

Rise

I later made a remake of the video with a slightly changed beginning…

I had also been watching and participating in a “research project” called the Google Bomb. I figured out a way to pull off the effect without the help of hundreds of likeminded people. I surfed the net looking for old, formerly popular blog pages whose writers seem to have disappeared or died. Targeted searches for online obituaries including words like “blogger” or “internet personality” allowed me to catalogue a large number of sites where no one was currently minding the farm. I would then go to the comment section of these sites and write a link into the comments like <a href=”http://blastedreality.net/rise.html”>why are we in Iraq?</a> then I would copy it and paste it, then copy both links and paste them and continue to comment down the thread, each time doubling the number of links. 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024… you get the point. This worked remarkably well and I littered the newly named blogosphere’s dead sites with thousands and thousands of links for the terms that people who may be just beginning to doubt the US govt’s foreign policy, might be using to look into their doubts.

This worked really well and the first video took off. It was also picked up by a number of anti George W. Bush sites and many popular forums. I followed that up with my “Full length” 911 movie Blasted Reality

It was a full-length piece by the standards of American attention spans in 2004, fifteen whole minutes. By a strange coincidence, that same month my Yahoo hosting bill came in at just over $15,000. This was the year YouTube first appeared, before anyone had cracked the code on monetizing viral video. There was no ad revenue, no safety net, just bandwidth fees. Twenty-two million downloads later, I was staring at a $15K bill. I don’t think I ever actually paid it.

What have I learned?

For the most part, the world does not wish to be saved. Also, that every movement collapses into infighting before it has a chance to become effective. This is due in part to the FBI’s program Cointelpro, wherein they infiltrate every political organization with chaos agents meant to undermine the organization via infighting or, when able to, via tricking members into engaging in illegal activity and then busting them for it.
