The US has, since its earliest days, been run as a business. Don’t believe me, well take a look at this. It is the flag of the East Indies Trading Company circa 1776.
And here is the flag flown by the early revolutionaries: The Grand Union Flag1.
Notice any similarities? Yes, it is the same flag. They are identical and that was intentional. Benjamin Franklin presented the idea to Washington.
"While the field of your flag must be new in the details of its design, it need not be entirely new in its elements. There is already in use a flag, I refer to the flag of the East India Company."
As anti-crown sentiment swept the revolutionary ranks, the flag was altered by removing the Union Jack and replacing it with the stars such as we see today. This did not remove the intention of setting up and running the country as a business.
What does this have to do with Trump?
He is attempting to run the country as a better run business and that will fail just as any attempt to run a country as a business will fail. Government and business have different priorities. In business, everything works to the benefit of the company’s officers and the stockholders. That is a small select caste of people that all value is created for and all profits given to. A country run in such a way will devolve directly into an oligarchy because it will also be run for the benefit of its executive level officers* and its stockholders, except nations are not supposed to have stockholders.
* Yes, I know that the company executives are not supposed to benefit as if they were stockholders, but human nature dictates that when given the opportunity for corruption and profit, they always will.

If not, then perhaps this will help. In 2004, Princeton released the findings of a study2 tracking governmental attentiveness to different groups within its population. They found that the US government was indeed an oligarchy run for the benefit of the very few and very rich and completely uninterested in meeting the demands of the majority of its citizens.

Attempting to run the country as a more fiscally responsible business will fail just as all attempts to run a society as a corporation have failed in the past. The difference in priorities means that any nation running on business principles will be inherently unjust to its citizens and therefor it will always be at risk of violent revolution and overthrow. It is what it is. We need to stop looking at fixing the company and start looking at creating a more perfect union.
Just to nail it down one more time-
The responsibilities of a nation do not include increasing the value of their stockholders shares and earnings.
What are the responsibilities of a nation?
They are laid out succinctly in the preamble to the US Constitution3- “…in order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity…”
A business run for the benefit of a select few, can not and will not ever establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense or promote the general welfare, for those must at all times, be done for everyone, equally.
It is justice for all or justice for no one.
It is peace for all or it is peace for no one.
It is life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all or it is life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for no one.
It really is that simple. Which do you want?
Those are the goals we need to focus on and that is the only way to fix the system and ever make America great.
