Excerpt from the Book of Revelation - Chapter 1
Greetings
Dear friends in Asia, one through seven.
A greeting sent from the highest Heaven!
Grace and peace to each of you.
From Him who’s faithful, strong, and true.
From Him who is, who was, who’ll be.
With seven spirits and Divinity.
Before His throne they shine so bright.
Like stars that twinkle in the night.
And from King Jesus, hear Him speak!
The faithful one, the strong, the meek.
The first to rise up from the dead.
The ruler over kings, He said:
He loves us more than we can say.
He washed our sin and took away,
The chains that held us down so tight.
He made us priests to share His light!
To Him be glory, praise, and cheer!
Forevermore, from year to year!
Can I get “Amen”? Shout it loud!
Now look! He’s coming on a cloud!
Yes, every eye will see Him then.
Even those who pierced Him when.
And all the people, far and wide,
Will mourn the day the Savior died.
So shall it be! “Amen” once more!
The truth rings out from shore to shore.
“I’m Alpha, Omega,” says the Lord,
The First and Last, with mighty sword.
I am, I was, and soon shall be.
You know me as the Almighty.”
The Vision of Christ
I, your friend. Your brother true.
In trials and tears I walk with you.
On Patmos Isle I sat alone.
Because I lived what God had shown.
On the Lord’s Day, bright and fair.
The Spirit swooped me then and there.
Behind me rang a trumpet blast.
A voice so loud, so bold, so fast.
“Now write,” it said, “what you will see!
Send it out! Send it from me!
To Ephesus and Smyrna, too.
For Pergamum and Thyatira’s view.
Sardis and Philly will read it quick.
And Laodicea where it will stick.”
I turned around, saw such a view!
Seven lampstands, gold and new.
And there among the golden flame,
Stood One who calls the stars by name.
He wore a robe down to His toes.
A sash of gold across His clothes.
His hair was white, like wool, like snow.
His eyes? Yes! They burn and glow!
His feet were bronze, strong and bright.
His voice like oceans’ roaring might.
He held seven stars up in the sky,
And from His mouth came words that fly.
A sword so sharp, it sliced the air.
And oh! His face! A sunbeam’s glare.
I dropped right down. I could not stand.
But then He touched me with His hand.
“Fear not,” He said, “Don’t run. Don’t hide,
I’m First and Last, right here beside.
I was once dead, but now I live!
Forevermore, My life I give!
I hold the keys to death’s dark face.
And Hades too. I own that place.
Now write it down, both now and then.
Of what will be and what has been.
The stars you saw? They’re angels bright!
The lampstands glow with holy light!
They are the churches, strong and true.
And now, dear friend, I speak through you!”
