I know I have not written anything here in a couple weeks, but I have been way busy trying to get these done by Easter. I have 5 days to finish the edits and this book is ready to go. I know it seems strange that I am writing rhyming translations of the bible. Call it a compulsion, because I really don’t know why I am doing it, but no one else has. So, it might as well be me.
Here is an excerpt from the Book of Genesis
Genesis Chapter 1
The Beginning
In the beginning all was chaos without purpose,
There was nothing of use, not a single surface!
The world was dark, just a void, black and deep,
But God had a plan, an agenda to keep.
Then BOOM! With four words, God showed his might!
"Let there be light!" and POOF there was light!
He looked at the brightness and said, “This is right.”
He called the light "Day," and the dark He called "Night."
Then evening came first, and morning came, too.
The first day was done. The next, shiny and new!
Then God took the waters, all wibbly and wide,
And He said, “Time to split! Let's make space inside!”
He lifted the water and He set it up high,
He made a great vault. He called it "The Sky!"
T'was evening again, and then morning, too.
The second day done. A third, fresh and new!
God said, “Gather these waters, down below,
So dry land can stand and rivers can flow.”
The dry land was "Earth," and the water "The Seas,"
God saw it all and said, “I'm quite pleased!”
Then plants started sprouting and quickly they grew!
Some bright colored flowers, some fruit bearing, too.
Each plant with its seeds, each tree with its kind,
God smiled at His work. "This world is divine!"
The evening fled, dawn chased the night.
The third day over. The fourth shining bright!
Up high in the sky, God made things just right.
Brilliant sun for the day, glowing moon for the night!
He sprinkled out stars, some dazzlingly white.
They twinkled, sparkled, and shone with His light.
Evening had passed, as dawn came again.
Day four lapsed, the fifth began!
Then out in the waters, God said, “Let it be!
Let fish fill the ocean, let creatures swim free!
Let birds fill the sky with their flutters and flights,
And sing their sweet songs from morning to night!”
And God blessed them all, “Go forth! Multiply!
Fill up the waters, and darken the sky!"
Then evening returned, then dawn did, too.
The sixth day was lively with splashes and coos!
God made land beasts, both great and small,
Those galloping free and those that would crawl.
Lions, tigers, and bears, "Oh my!"
Cattle and camels, and critters that cry.
Then God said, “Let’s do something unique,
Let’s make humans and teach them to speak.
Made in My image, so all will see.
They hold dominion over My Earth for Me!”
He made two kinds, named woman and man,
He smiled upon them, “Go forth, as I planned!
Be fruitful! Increase! Fill up this place!
Rule over the Earth, My beautiful space!”
God gave them food, each tree and each vine,
The plants and the fields, “Take eat, this is fine!”
And all the wild beasts and the birds in the air,
Had food of their own, for God’s world was fair!
Then God looked around and smiled at the sight!
It was so close to perfect, everything right.
Evening came first, morning came, too
The sixth day was finished, creation brand-new!
And God, He declared, “This world, it is good!
Yes, very good! As I knew it would.”
The heavens, the seas, the land far and wide,
Were bursting with wonder, creation, and pride!
